Kyrgios and Murray ‘devastated’ after Wimbledon final

Andy Murray’s Wimbledon run has ended in a quarterfinal defeat to Rafael Nadal.

The world No. 7 was in the lead in four sets against the 20-year-old Austrian as the pair locked horns in the third and fourth sets before the Serb eventually prevailed in five sets.

Nadal finished off Kyrgios in two sets in a thrilling final on Friday, before the former world No. 1 took two sets from Dominic Thiem in the evening.

Murray has now lost four finals in five weeks, with his best run of success to date coming at the US Open, where he reached the semi-finals, where he was beaten by Novak Djokovic, at the beginning of September.

Murray could have won the tournament but fell just short of the semi-finals on Friday when he crashed out from two sets down against the 19-year-old German.

And the world No. 19 was left ‘devastated’ after his defeat as he put his hands over his face on court as he sat with his friend and tennis coach Daniel Nestor in the press room

Murray’s final victory against Nadal this week came in just over a fortnight, following two straight defeats to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 2 Roger Federer.

The former world No. 1, who won his 15th Slam title over Djokovic in 2011, went on to win four straight titles against Federer.

Murray will return to action at Wimbledon next month when he takes on Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals on June 18.
