City of San Francisco’s proposed regulations would:

Electric vehicle rebate among staff proposals to speed up Toronto’s target to become a carbon neutral city: 1% for 2019 and 2020, and 5% for 2021 and 2022 (City of Toronto)

The City of Toronto (“City”) has recently released proposed regulations to accelerate and expand the goals of Carbon Neutral Toronto. These regulations are outlined in a Request for Information published on the Government of Ontario’s website. This Request was issued in response to a request for consultation initiated by the City in a Notice to Proceed (“NTP”) for the “Carbon Neutrality Strategy”. The Carbon Neutrality Strategy aims to identify and pursue goals for the City that are associated with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to zero, and a 50% reduction in Toronto’s total carbon emissions by 2050.

The City’s proposed regulations would:

Increase the goal percentage of vehicle re-drive incentives to 1%, effective with the first month of the 2019 financial year, and to increase this amount every year up until 2030. Increase the goal percentage of electric vehicle incentives to 5% by 2021 and 2022.

Increase the goal percentage for the “Re-use” and “Energy efficiency” categories from 50% to 85%.

Increase the goal percentage for the “Car Sharing” category from 50% to 85%.

Increase the goal percentage of the “Energy efficiency” category from 50% to 85%.

Increase the goal percentage for the “Utilities” category from 50% to 85%.

Increase the goal percentage for the “Clean Fleet” category from 10 to 65%.

Increase the goal percentage for the “Carbon offsets” category from 10% to 5%.

Increase the goal percentage for the “Ecolab” category from 10% to 5%.

Increase the goal percentage for the “Green energy” category from 10%
